
India, Canada agree on Security Plan on Drugs, Cybercrime
- India and Canada agreed on a shared plan to strengthen national security and law enforcement cooperation

India and Canada have established a joint work program which will help them work together to improve their national security and law enforcement activities. The two countries have established this understanding because diplomatic relations between them have been broken for an extended period.
India Canada security ties have been strengthened through a law enforcement agreement focused on drug trafficking, transnational crime, and cybersecurity cooperation to address emerging cyber threats, marking a step forward in the India Canada relations and broader security partnership.
The agreement between the two countries took place during a security dialogue meeting which took place in Ottawa between the Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Canadian National Security Adviser Nathalie Drouin.
The External Affairs Ministry of India reported through its official statement that both countries made progress in protecting their citizens during the past few months. The two parties reached an agreement to develop a formal work plan which will assist their collaboration efforts to handle national security and law enforcement activities along with drug trafficking and international criminal organization matters.

The essential procedure will improve direct communication between the two parties while allowing them to exchange information about shared security threats between Canada and India, which include illegal drug trafficking and transnational gangster organizations.
India and Canada will establish special security and law-enforcement liaison positions to improve their operational cooperation and build stronger relations between their security agencies.
The discussions also covered expanding cooperation in emerging areas. Both countries established a formal framework to address cybersecurity policy which included developing better methods for sharing information about cyber threats.
The two parties established a commitment to keep talking about their partnership which included fraud prevention and immigration enforcement according to their national laws and international obligations.
Ajit Doval visited Canada to meet with Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree. Both parties have been working to restart security cooperation since late 2024, which reached its highest point after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney won the election.
