MP Cabinet Approves Rs 2,508 Cr Road Project, Welfare Plans

  • MP Cabinet Approves ₹2,508.21 Crore for the Badwah-Dhamnod four-lane road under the Hybrid Annuity Model
  • The project will include the construction of ten bypasses, five major bridges, and 23 medium bridges

The Madhya Pradesh government, led by CM Mohan Yadav, is embarking on a project to build a new road, the Badwah-Dhamnod, which will span 62.795 kilometers in length, via Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).  The Budget of ₹2,508.21 Crore was approved by the cabinet on Monday and will help fund the acquisition of land, upgradation and construction of this 4-lane road. 

PWD Minister, Rakesh Singh, stated, “The two-lane Badwah-Dhamnod Road will be upgraded to four lanes. Basically, this new road will link two National Highways and provide connectivity to Maheshwar. The Madhya Pradesh Road Transport Corporation will construct the road”.

The new road will incorporate the construction of 10 bypasses, 5 Large Size Bridges, 23 Medium Size Bridges, 12 Road Underpasses for vehicles, 7 Major Sized Junctions and 56 Medium Sized Junctions.

The State Government has committed to contributing 40% of the total Project Cost to support this venture utilizing the State Highway Fund, with the remaining 60% of the costs to be paid for out of the State Government's Budget over the next 15 years.

In a different significant decision, the cabinet has decided to continue its support of 'Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0', so that these programs can continue for 5 more years in accordance with the Centre for the 16th Finance Commission (2026-2031) Guidelines.

“This umbrella program comprises anganwadi services, including the supplementary nutrition program, pre-school education, construction of anganwadi buildings - including Saksham Anganwadis, poshan abhiyaan (nutrition campaign), the scheme for adolescent girls, training of anganwadi workers, and other related components. The scheme is being implemented through 97,882 Anganwadi centres under 453 child development projects across all 55 districts”, the statement read by the Madhya Pradesh Government.

The cabinet also approved funding of ₹197.13 crore for the next phase of construction at the Madhya Pradesh Dharmashastra National Law University in Jabalpur, which currently has 1,272 sanctioned seats, and 720 students are currently registered in the BA LLB (Hons), LLB (Hons) and PhD Programme.

“There are two law universities in the state — one in Bhopal and the second in Jabalpur. Under the second phase, an administration block and an academic block will be constructed. Official residences for the vice-chancellor and the registrar, 12 multi-storey staff quarters, the campus boundary wall, and other allied works will be constructed”, the minister added.

In conclusion, the cabinet confirmed its backing of the ₹434.58 crore weather information network and data system under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for the next 5 years.

The minister noted, “Automatic weather stations will be installed at each tehsil level and automatic rain gauges at each gram panchayat level for which a financial sanction of ₹434.58 crore has been approved. The main headquarters of the data centre will be in New Delhi while it will be monitored from Bhopal. The WINDS programme will provide weather-based data to enable faster implementation of the crop insurance scheme in the interest of farmers, and high-quality meteorological data will be supplied to the Union govt”.
