
India, Canada Deepen Ties in Critical Minerals, Clean Mobility
- India and Canada will deepen cooperation in critical minerals, battery manufacturing, and clean mobility

- The partnership will move forward through formal agreements and a Canada–India Critical Minerals Dialogue in 2026
India and Canada reached an agreement to improve their partnership which includes critical mineral resources and clean transportation methods, battery production and environmentally friendly industrial development.
The meeting between Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy and Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Tim Hodgson was guided by India’s Viksit Bharat@2047 vision and its commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070.
Minister Kumaraswamy demonstrated during the Udyog Bhawan discussions that India has become a worldwide manufacturing center which develops its automotive and electric vehicle industries.
He demonstrated that India has developed its capabilities for producing advanced manufacturing systems while also extending its influence throughout international clean energy production networks.
Minister Hodgson described India as a global leader in battery technologies and electric mobility solutions and expressed Canada’s willingness to share advanced battery technologies and expand collaboration with Indian partners.
Canada confirmed its commitment to support India in meeting its increasing requirements for critical minerals which include lithium and cobalt and graphite and rare earth elements while the country seeks to enhance its market entrance opportunities for Canadian businesses in India.

Both sides discussed establishing coordination frameworks for their joint work on manufacturing battery cells and components and conducting research on next-generation batteries and developing critical mineral supply chains and creating testing and certification infrastructure and implementing sustainable manufacturing processes.
The conversations proceed from diplomatic progress, which enables both nations to establish formal agreements for essential minerals cooperation within upcoming weeks.
A high-level Indian government and industry delegation will participate in the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada Convention in Toronto during March 2026, which will serve as the venue for the first Canada–India Critical Minerals Annual Dialogue.
The talks included officials from the Ministries of Heavy Industries and Steel, NMDC, BHEL, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Canadian delegation.
The meeting occurs within a larger movement to restore India-Canada relations after the Ministerial Energy Dialogue began at India Energy Week 2026 in Goa to address energy security and clean technologies and supply chain resilience.
