India, EU Boost Cooperation on Clean Energy and Climate Goals

Sibi George, the MEA Secretary (West), met with Ditte Juul Jorgensen, Directorate-General for Energy, European Commission, to review cooperation under the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

India EU clean energy initiatives are strengthened through the climate partnership, promoting renewable energy cooperation, supporting the green transition in India, aligning with EU climate goals, and advancing a long-term sustainability partnership. The discussions reaffirmed the mutual commitment towards furthering sustainable energy and climate action.

Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs in a post on X mentioned, “Secretary (West) @AmbSibiGeorge met DG ENER @Energy4Europe Ms. Ditte Juul Jorgensen. They reviewed cooperation under the India-EU Clean Energy and Climate Partnership, including in the areas of solar, wind and green hydrogen”.

In a related development, the 8th India-Denmark Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, bestows a resolution to enhance cooperation across a number of areas.

In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs stated, “It was co-chaired by Secretary (West) Sibi George and State Secretary for Foreign Policy Lotte Machon. They took stock of the ongoing bilateral cooperation under the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and the Joint Action Plan for the term 2021-26”.

Some areas of cooperative potential discussed were political contacts, trade and investment, renewable energy and clean technology, circular economy, shipping, water management, agriculture and animal husbandry, food processing, R&D, and mobility.

The consultations also focused on matters of defence and security cooperation, new and emerging technologies, and initiatives related to the Arctic. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to addressing terrorism in all its forms.

In a post on X, MEA said, “Denmark is a trusted partner in the EU. The Danish side reiterated its support for the early conclusion of India-EU FTA during Denmark's ongoing Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Both sides exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and agreed to strengthen multilateral cooperation”.

Furthermore, the encounters supported the India-EU Strategic Partnership’s strengthening as a major issue, especially in times of Denmark’s holding the rotating Presidency of the European Union Council.

Denmark showed the willingness to the rapid extension of an India-EU Free Trade Agreement that would profit both sides. In addition, broader multilateral cooperation, including in the UN and Arctic areas of concern, was part of the discussions, which showed the common priorities in global governance, sustainability, and security.
