India, Germany Deepen Renewable Energy Partnership
- India and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to clean energy and sustainability during Johann Saathoff’s visit
- Saathoff promoted joint work in solar, wind, and green hydrogen at the REI Expo and CEO Roundtable
- He highlighted Agri-Photovoltaics as a third harvest, combining food and energy production
As the German Embassy's statement, India and Germany have once more affirmed the solid connection between them regarding renewable energy and sustainable development.
The visit of German Parliamentary State Secretary Johann Saathoff to India for four days that covered Chennai and Delhi-NCR was the occasion of the anniversary which emphasized not only the 25 years of India-Germany strategic partnership but also the teaming up in technology, innovation, and climate action.
In New Delhi, Saathoff was the one to kick off the German Pavilion at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2025, which was a platform for companies from the two nations to showcase their progress in solar, wind, and green hydrogen technologies.
Under the 'Team Germany' approach, Saathoff drew attention to the partnership among the ministries, development agencies like GIZ and KfW, and the private sector that is supporting the global renewable energy supply chains.
The India Germany partnership is strengthening renewable energy and clean energy initiatives, promoting sustainable growth, supporting the green transition, and advancing solar energy, wind power, and overall energy cooperation.

The Indo-German CEO Roundtable on Solar Energy, which was organized by the Indian Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), highlighted solar manufacturing, technology transfer and investment cooperation as the main topics of the discussions.
Saathoff said that renewable energy is not only an economic opportunity but also a moral obligation to protect the Earth.
He further mentioned that India and Germany are learning from each other in the process of regulating large-scale renewable integration into their grids with fair competition and industrial growth being the outcomes of this scenario.
"It has been a true pleasure to be in India and to witness the tremendous energy, innovation, and optimism that define this country", Saathoff stated.
"At Windergy India 2025 in Chennai, I saw the potential and commitment of India’s wind sector, and at Renewable Energy India 2025 in Delhi, I was inspired by the progress in solar and biogas", he added.
Saathoff, who visited the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), took a look at an Agri-Photovoltaic (Agri-PV) demonstration site that was set up with GIZ India and he referred to the concept as a third harvest that strengthens food and energy security as well as the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) being the area where this is happening.
