India’s network of natural gas pipelines now operates over 25,000 km long. The construction of such an extensive network brings the country a step closer to having a completely linked national gas grid. Moreover, the development is a part of the government’s plan to provide cleaner and more reliable energy across the entire country.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) stressed that besides this accomplishment an extra 10,459 km of pipelines are also going on to improve interlinking to the gas grid through its annual review announcement.

In a move to promote equal gas prices throughout the country, the government launched he scheme called "One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff". This measure the costs of transportation through 90% of the gas-pipe network the same and thus stop the consumers from the isolated areas from suffering higher costs.

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana's (PMUY) promotion of clean cooking fuel by the government has so far demonstrated major advancement. The program's target was initially 5 crore beneficiaries by March 2020, but the actual number of PMUY beneficiaries as of December 2025 was 10.35 crore, which is almost double. The government also picked up the last 25 lakh connections for FY 2025-26 to ensure every household will get an LPG connection.

The statement read, “The eligibility process was simplified through the introduction of a single Deprivation Declaration, replacing the earlier multi-point self-declaration system, thereby making access faster and more inclusive”.

The subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder to PMUY beneficiaries is also playing a part in making LPG affordable, and hence, contributing to the steady increase in the consumption. Per capita use grew from 3 refills in 2019-20 to 4.85 refills in FY 2025-26.

Besides, the Ministry has also set up a better network for petroleum marketing as more than 90,000 retail outlets have been installed with digital payment facilities.

“Door-to-door delivery services were expanded through the commissioning of over 3,200 bowsers, improving accessibility in remote areas. Under Swachh Bharat Mission, toilet facilities were ensured at nearly all retail outlets, with a large number providing separate facilities for men and women”, the statement added.

The government has ensured the safety of the consumers by carrying out more than 12.12 crore safety checks, while the ethanol blending in petrol has increased to 19.24%, and the awarding of 172 exploration blocks has been done to raise the domestic oil and gas production.
