India, Mauritius Move to Deepen Bilateral Trade Ties

Mauritius keeps up its diplomatic and economic relationships with a number of the world’s major powers like India, the US, the UK, EU, UAE, and China, the country’s representing one in India disclosed. The country keeps on having a balanced foreign policy which leads to the strengthening of relations with several countries and at the same time opens up the country to more investment and trade opportunities.

Ms. Sheilabai Bappoo, Mauritius' High Commissioner to India, explained that while Mauritius greatly appreciates its deep roots with India, it also continuously works on building relations with other big economies of the world. Thanks to these partnerships, Mauritius has been able to place itself as the ideal location for companies that want to enter African and Indian Ocean markets.

The relationship between India and Mauritius goes back a long time and is rooted in cultural, economic, and political collaboration. Most of the population on the island is of Indian descent, which has led to very strong relations between the two countries over a long period of time. The two countries are working together in many areas like trade, maritime security, infrastructure development, and capacity building.

The Mauritian envoy pointed out that there is a rekindled interest in deepening bilateral relation with India. The government of Mauritius sees the incoming of bigger investments and more manufacturing activities happening on the island. Through enhancing economic cooperation, the island nation aims to serve as a base for companies looking to extend their reach in African markets.

The emphasis is not only on India but at the same time Mauritius is keeping its diplomatic ties with other key partners such as the US, UK, EU, UAE, and China. This well, diversified web of connections helps the country to stay economically stable and be able to actively engage in global trade and investment flows.

The foreign policy of Mauritius substantially aims at building stronger ties with both Western and emerging economy countries, which allows the small nation to act as a bridge between different regions. Thanks to the advantageous geographical position of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean and the stable political situation, this small island in the middle of the ocean has been making efforts to present itself as a place where international businesses, financial services, and trade between Asia and Africa can connect.
