According to Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, India and Mauritius have agreed to collaborate more closely in ocean technologies and the blue economy, which have been pinpointed as two of the most important areas for sustainable development. In his speech addressed to Mauritian officials, Singh highlighted India’s vast experience in marine resource management and ocean-based innovations as the leading factors that could empower Mauritius to realize its developmental goals.
Among the proposed joint researches in the areas of fisheries, desalination, and advanced ocean technologies, he invited India and Mauritius to co-create the ocean economy’s ten-year plan powered by partnerships with India’s Earth Sciences research institutes. Singh drew attention to India’s Deep Ocean Mission as an example of how to use marine resources in a clean manner, thus, Mauritius could benefit in the areas of environment-friendly aquaculture, seabed mineral exploration, and climate-resilient coastal infrastructure.
