
SDHI Signs MoU with Royal IHC to Build Offshore Vessels

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), India's premier shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company has signed an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Royal IHC, a Netherlands-based specialist in offshore oil and gas vessels.
The agreement, facilitated by Alar Infrastructure, Royal IHC's Indian agent, formalises a relationship to design, build and retrofit offshore and specialised vessels in India. The SDHI Royal IHC MoU marks a significant step in offshore vessel manufacturing India, strengthening the Indian shipbuilding industry and advancing the maritime industry India.
As part of the agreement , SDHI's Pipavav shipyard in Gujarat is looking to become a hub for Offshore Construction Vessels, Pipe Laying Vessels, and Multi Purpose Offshore Support Vessels. Through this collaboration, domestic ship production will be enhanced, leveraging Royal IHC partnership expertise to drive SDHI shipbuilding projects and deliver advanced offshore maritime solutions.
The aim of this partnership is to support the Indian Government's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, increasing the indigenous shipbuilding capability and improving cost competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.

The collaboration leverages Royal IHC’s global experience in vessel design, engineering and project management with SDHI’s robust infrastructure, extensive dry docking facilities, and skilled workforce.
SDHI’s strategically located shipyard on the west coast has India’s largest dry dock (662m x 65m) and an annual capacity of 144,000 tonnes of fabrication, and specializing in high precision offshore work.
This unique collaboration ties together the very best of international technology and India’s extensive broader manufacturing capacity to strengthen India’s competitive position in this strategic sector of the global shipbuilding industry.
Importantly, it provides significant leverage among India’s goal to be a hub for offshore operations extending not just to oil and gas, but for the broadening of opportunities into renewable energy, and allows for sustainable growth and innovation in the maritime industry.
