India Nepal Bilateral Ties Discussed With PM Balendra Shah

India’s outgoing envoy Naveen Srivastava meets Nepal PM Balendra Shah to discuss bilateral ties and mutual cooperation, as Srivastava concludes his four-year tenure and prepares to return to India

India’s outgoing Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, meets Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah in Kathmandu for a farewell meeting, with the two sides discussing bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation. Srivastava is preparing to return to India after completing his four-year tenure.

During the meeting, Srivastava thanks Prime Minister Shah and the Government of Nepal for their support in advancing the bilateral partnership during his tenure. He also acknowledges the cooperation extended by the Government and people of Nepal throughout his assignment.

Prime Minister Shah highlights the longstanding and cordial relationship between Nepal and India. He also expresses appreciation to the Government of India for its support to Nepal during natural disasters, including floods and landslides.

The meeting also provides an opportunity to review areas of mutual cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the discussions cover bilateral relations and matters of shared interest.

Shah congratulates Srivastava on completing his tenure and extends his best wishes for his future responsibilities. The meeting marks Srivastava’s final engagement with the Nepali prime minister before his return to India.

Srivastava has served as India’s Ambassador to Nepal since June 2022. During his tenure, several development projects have been completed as part of the broader India-Nepal development partnership. He acknowledges the cooperation received from Nepal in advancing these initiatives.

India and Nepal maintain extensive ties across areas including development cooperation, connectivity, renewable energy, infrastructure, trade and people-to-people relations. The two countries also share an open border and longstanding cultural and social connections.

The latest meeting comes after Shah’s earlier discussions with Srivastava in August, when the two sides focused on strengthening Nepal-India relations, bilateral cooperation and the development partnership.

Srivastava is scheduled to return to India on October 1 after completing his assignment. His departure marks the conclusion of a four-year diplomatic tenure during which India and Nepal continued engagement across multiple areas of bilateral cooperation.
