India, Netherlands Elevate Bilateral Ties to Strategic Partnership
Synopsis: India and Netherlands agree to elevate bilateral ties into a strategic partnership focused on semiconductors, clean energy, digital technology, maritime cooperation, and resilient global supply chains.
India and Netherlands are elevating their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership focused on semiconductors, clean energy, defence, digital technologies, and resilient supply chains, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official visit to the Netherlands.
The announcement came during Modi’s meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof in The Hague, where both leaders discussed expanding cooperation across high-technology sectors, maritime security, innovation, water management, and sustainable infrastructure. The visit forms part of Modi’s broader multi-nation diplomatic tour across Europe and the Gulf region aimed at strengthening strategic and economic partnerships.
A major focus of the discussions was semiconductor collaboration, with India seeking deeper partnerships with Dutch technology firms as it accelerates domestic chip manufacturing initiatives. Reports indicated that semiconductor equipment maker ASML and Indian companies are expected to expand cooperation in advanced chip ecosystem development and semiconductor talent training.

The two countries also explored opportunities in green hydrogen, offshore wind energy, smart mobility, logistics, and circular economy solutions. The Netherlands remains one of India’s largest foreign investors in Europe and serves as a major gateway for Indian trade and business operations across the European Union.
Modi stated that India and the Netherlands share common democratic values and increasing convergence on economic resilience, technological innovation, and global supply-chain diversification. Analysts noted that the partnership is gaining importance as countries seek trusted technology and trade alliances amid geopolitical uncertainty and disruptions in global manufacturing networks.
The leaders additionally discussed maritime cooperation and Indo-Pacific stability, with both sides emphasising the importance of secure sea routes and rules-based international trade. India has been expanding engagement with European nations to strengthen cooperation in defence manufacturing, AI, cybersecurity, and advanced engineering sectors.
Industry experts believe the enhanced strategic partnership could accelerate investments, innovation partnerships, and technology transfer opportunities between Indian and Dutch companies, particularly in semiconductors, renewable energy, agri-tech, and digital infrastructure.
