Modi Begins UAE, Europe Tour Focused on Energy, Tech
Synopsis: Narendra Modi begins a five-nation UAE and Europe tour focused on energy security, technology partnerships, semiconductors, trade, and strategic cooperation amid the ongoing Iran conflict and oil market volatility.
Narendra Modi has begun a five-nation diplomatic tour covering the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy amid growing concerns over energy security, supply-chain disruptions, and geopolitical instability linked to the ongoing Iran conflict. The visit is expected to focus on strengthening India’s partnerships in energy, technology, semiconductors, AI, clean energy, and trade.
The UAE leg of the visit is considered particularly significant as India seeks to secure stable crude oil and LNG supplies amid rising volatility in global energy markets. Modi is scheduled to meet UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with discussions expected around long-term fuel agreements, strategic petroleum reserves, and broader economic cooperation. Reports indicate that agreements related to LPG supplies and petroleum reserve collaboration may be signed during the visit.
The diplomatic outreach comes as disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and escalating tensions in West Asia continue to impact oil prices and shipping costs. India, which imports over 85 percent of its crude oil requirements, has been actively working to diversify energy partnerships and strengthen supply resilience.

In Europe, Modi’s meetings are expected to focus heavily on technology partnerships, semiconductors, green energy, defence manufacturing, maritime cooperation, and digital innovation. The Netherlands visit will reportedly include collaboration in semiconductors, hydrogen, and water management, including an agreement between Tata Electronics and ASML for semiconductor manufacturing support in Gujarat.
Sweden discussions are expected to centre on AI, 6G, quantum computing, critical minerals, and defence manufacturing under the proposed Sweden-India Technology and AI Corridor initiative. Norway engagements will focus on maritime security, renewable energy, Arctic cooperation, and Nordic investment opportunities, while Italy discussions are linked to infrastructure, manufacturing, and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
The tour follows the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement negotiations and reflects India’s broader strategy to deepen strategic and economic ties with Europe while strengthening energy security during a period of global geopolitical uncertainty.
