India strengthens India Morocco fertiliser ties to secure fertiliser supply India, leveraging Morocco phosphate supply and Morocco OCP partnership to enhance India fertiliser security, boost India agriculture inputs, and support its fertiliser import strategy.
To alleviate global unpredictability, such as the weaponization of primary products by commodity exporters, such as China, India is looking to develop an even greater reliance on Morocco for fertilizers. This was made possible through a recent meeting between Mostafa Terrab (Chairman & CEO of OCP Group) and Neena Malhotra (Secretary of South for India's Ministry of External Affairs).
During the meeting, the parties discussed collaborative activities related to long-term strategic supply agreements, avenues for joint ventures along the fertilizer value chain, partnership opportunities focused on sustainable agricultural practice and soil health, and food security initiatives.
OCP Group is part of Paradeep Phosphates, which OCP Group has a 28% interest in, and had the opportunity to partner with Chambal Fertilizers through Indo Maroc Phosphore SA, since both companies are important sources of raw materials for Indian fertiliser manufacturers.
OCP currently provides approximately 20% of India's total rock phosphate imports; they also provide about one-third of India's total demand for phosphoric acid, about 33% of the total requirement for DAP (di-ammonium phosphate), and 100% of TSP (tri-superphosphate). In 2025 OCP entered into contracts for 1.5 million tonnes of DAP and 1 million tonnes of TSP.

India and Morocco are developing their diplomatic relationship on many levels, beyond the fertiliser production agreement that both countries signed earlier this year.
Malhotra has recently held discussions with Morocco's ministers of trade and energy regarding opportunities for trade and investment in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, automobiles, IT services, Agro-processing, renewable energy, sustainable mining and Private Sector engagement.
Along with developing economic cooperation between both countries, Morocco and India are strengthening Defence Cooperation by having India’s Chief of Defence Staff meet.
The objective of this meeting was to increase Defence Exports, conduct Joint Exercises, develop Operational Links and enhance Maritime Security Cooperation between India and Morocco. Recently, the Indian Navy (INS Tamal and INS Tushil) conducted exercises while transiting through the Moroccan Navy.
Both nations are looking forward towards enhancing the operational interoperability of their respective Naval Forces. Moreover, India has identified Morocco as an Emerging Strategic Partner in North Africa based upon the ability of the two nations to provide secure access to Strategic Resources through Collaborative Efforts in defence, Energy Transition and Trade.
