India, Sweden Deepen Strategic Telecom, Digital Ties

India and Sweden have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation in telecommunications and digital technologies following high-level talks in New Delhi.

Focused on digital transformation India Sweden, the expanding India Sweden tech industry ties and Sweden India digital infrastructure initiatives reinforce the Sweden India strategic alliance, advancing bilateral telecom agreements India and accelerating India Sweden tech industry growth.

The discussions showed that both secure digital infrastructure and future-ready infrastructure have become essential elements which drive their diplomatic relations and their economic development.

Both sides emphasized that digital transformation is now a cornerstone of the partnership, focusing on resilient networks, next-generation connectivity, and sustainable technological innovation.

The India-Sweden Joint Working Group on Digital Technologies and Economy was reaffirmed as the primary platform for structured collaboration, with plans to convene its third meeting in Stockholm soon.

The platform enables organizations to engage in dialogue which covers all aspects of policy, regulation, research and industry, thus facilitating knowledge sharing and practical implementation of results.

The two countries focused on 5G and the upcoming 5G-Advanced ecosystems to examine which infrastructure needs expansion and which health sector, agriculture, manufacturing, smart city and rural connectivity applications require development.

Sweden recognized that India has developed its 5G network at a fast pace, while India described its telecom industry, which serves more than a billion customers, provides almost complete 4G service, and continues to grow its rural fibre internet network.

The sustainability initiatives, which included renewable energy implementation at telecom sites and their transition to clean energy sources, received special emphasis.

India’s Digital Public Infrastructure-platforms such as Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker, functioned as a driver that enabled people to access secure digital services which could work together with other systems.

The two nations developed a research plan to study 6G technologies, which included spectrum harmonization, Open RAN systems, quantum systems and secure supply chains. The three fields of cybersecurity, telecom fraud prevention and risk-based regulatory systems received recognition as critical areas for development.

The dialogue ended with both parties committing to maintain their partnership through ongoing work and shared research activities, which will create digital ecosystems that enable secure systems, inclusive access and future-proof operations.
