Indians in Qatar Can Now Send Money Directly to UPI Accounts
Qatar Post has launched a UPI-powered remittance service enabling customers to send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India. The PosTransfer service offers a convenient cross-border payment channel for the Indian community in Qatar.
Qatar Post has launched a new UPI-powered remittance service that allows customers in Qatar to send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India. The service, called PosTransfer, became operational on August 15 and is aimed at simplifying cross-border remittances for the large Indian community in Qatar.
The service was developed through a collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). It combines the reach of postal networks with India's digital payments infrastructure to provide a direct channel for international money transfers.

Under the system, customers can visit participating Qatar Post outlets and initiate a remittance by providing the recipient's UPI ID in India, along with the required identification details. The recipient must activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances through their UPI application. Once activated, the money is credited to the beneficiary's UPI-enabled bank account.
Transactions can range from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000 per transfer, subject to a maximum equivalent of ₹1 lakh. A flat service charge of QAR 15 per transaction applies.
The initiative is expected to benefit Indian expatriates in Qatar by providing an additional channel to transfer funds to families and beneficiaries in India. By linking Qatar's postal network with UPI, the service seeks to make international remittances more accessible and digitally connected.
The launch also strengthens financial and digital cooperation between India and Qatar. It demonstrates how postal networks can be integrated with digital payment infrastructure to support cross-border financial services.
For India, the initiative further expands the international use of its digital public infrastructure. For Qatar, it provides an additional remittance option through its established postal network.

The Qatar-India corridor could also serve as a model for expanding PosTransfer-powered UPI remittance services to other countries. India Post is working with postal operators in other markets to operationalise additional international remittance corridors.
The development marks another step towards more interoperable, accessible and digitally enabled cross-border payments, particularly for migrant communities sending money to India.
