Infineon, NIELIT Partner to Boost India's Chip Skills
- Infineon, NIELIT sign MoU for semiconductor skilling
- Focus on training, testing and packaging workforce
- Partnership supports Viksit Bharat 2047 vision
Infineon Technologies AG and the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Ahmedabad to strengthen semiconductor skilling and workforce development in India. The signing was witnessed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and German Chancellor H.E. Mr Friedrich Merz during the Chancellor’s first official visit to India.
Jochen Hanebeck, Chief Executive Officer of Infineon, was part of the German business delegation accompanying the Chancellor. The MoU establishes a structured framework for collaboration between Infineon and NIELIT, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to build industry-ready talent for the semiconductor sector.
Under the agreement, the two sides will jointly develop comprehensive training programmes focused on semiconductor assembly, testing and packaging. The collaboration will include curriculum enhancements, expert-led seminars, “train the trainer” initiatives, and the donation of equipment to enable hands-on, practical learning for students and professionals.
“India is one of the most dynamic economies globally, and its ambition to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem aligns perfectly with Infineon’s strengths in power systems and Internet of Things (IoT),” said Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon. “Our partnership with NIELIT demonstrates our deep commitment to India—not just as a market, but as a hub for strategic innovation and R&D. By investing in talent development and knowledge transfer, we are helping to build the skilled workforce that will drive India’s semiconductor future and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Prof. M.M. Tripathi, Director General of NIELIT, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. “This partnership with Infineon marks a significant step forward for India’s semiconductor ecosystem. By combining NIELIT’s extensive training infrastructure with Infineon’s global semiconductor expertise, we will create world-class skilling programs that prepare our youth for careers in this critical sector. This initiative directly supports India’s ambition to become self-reliant in semiconductor manufacturing.”
On the sidelines of the visit, Infineon also hosted a two-day workshop titled “Semiconductors—A Key Enabler for Viksit Bharat 2047: From Vision to Reality”, in collaboration with MeitY, in New Delhi from January 12 to 13, 2026. The workshop brought together global semiconductor experts, government officials and industry leaders to discuss pathways for building a globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem in India.
During his address, Dr M.M. Tripathi underlined the importance of industry-aligned training, hands-on learning and collaborative research, noting that the partnership represents a key milestone in advancing India’s semiconductor and embedded systems ecosystem.
