Iran President Pezeshkian to Visit India for BRICS Summit
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit New Delhi in September for the 18th BRICS Summit, according to Iranian sources. His visit comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia and will add significance to India-Iran diplomatic engagement.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to travel to New Delhi in September to attend the upcoming 18th BRICS Summit, according to Iranian sources cited by ANI. India is hosting the summit under its 2026 BRICS chairship.
Pezeshkian's participation comes at a significant time, with tensions in West Asia adding importance to diplomatic engagement among BRICS members. The summit is expected to provide a platform for leaders to discuss global political and economic developments, as well as cooperation within the expanded grouping.

India assumed the BRICS chairship from Brazil at the beginning of 2026 and is hosting the summit under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Iran became a full member of BRICS in 2024, alongside Egypt, Ethiopia and the UAE. Indonesia joined the grouping in 2025, taking the number of full members to 11.
The upcoming visit would provide an opportunity for India and Iran to review their bilateral relationship and discuss regional developments. Pezeshkian last met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024, where the two leaders discussed bilateral and regional issues.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also visited India earlier this year for the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting. During that engagement, Tehran highlighted India's potential role in diplomatic efforts to address tensions in West Asia.

Economic cooperation could also feature in the broader India-Iran engagement. Iran is seeking to deepen its links with BRICS economies and is also expected to join the New Development Bank, the group's development finance institution.
Pezeshkian's expected presence at the New Delhi summit therefore adds another layer to India's BRICS presidency. His visit is likely to place India-Iran relations, regional stability and wider economic cooperation among the key areas of diplomatic attention during the summit.
