Jaishankar Meets Swiss FM, Nauru President at UNGA 2026

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar meets Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Nauru President David Adeang in New York, reviewing economic ties, multilateral cooperation and India’s development partnership.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar holds separate meetings with Switzerland’s Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Nauru President David Adeang on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The engagements focus on strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation and collaboration in multilateral forums.

During his meeting with Cassis, Jaishankar reviews the progress of India-Switzerland economic relations following the entry into force of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. The agreement, signed between India and the four-member EFTA bloc comprising Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, is aimed at expanding trade and investment opportunities between the two sides.

Jaishankar and Cassis also exchange views on major global developments and ways to strengthen multilateral cooperation. The discussions come as India continues to expand its engagement with European partners across trade, investment and international institutions.

In a separate meeting, Jaishankar meets Nauru President David Adeang during the UNGA high-level week. The External Affairs Minister highlights the strong bilateral and multilateral cooperation between India and Nauru and reiterates India’s commitment to its development partnership with the Pacific island nation.

The meetings form part of Jaishankar’s wider diplomatic engagements during the UN General Assembly week, as India seeks to strengthen partnerships across regions and advance cooperation on global issues. His schedule also includes meetings with counterparts from other countries and participation in plurilateral forums.

Earlier, Jaishankar participates in the first India-Visegrád Group Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The participating countries discuss cooperation in political, economic, technology, defence, education and people-to-people ties, while also examining issues related to technology, space, connectivity and mobility.

Jaishankar’s engagements in New York take place as the 81st UN General Assembly convenes its high-level week, providing India an opportunity to deepen bilateral partnerships while advancing its priorities on multilateral cooperation and global governance.
