Armenia and India Seek to Deepen Bilateral Partnership

India and Armenia seek to deepen bilateral ties following talks between PM Narendra Modi and Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan at the SCO Summit. Discussions covered defence, trade, pharmaceuticals, science, technology, education and culture.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, discussing ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The leaders reviewed the progress of India-Armenia relations and explored opportunities to expand cooperation across defence, economic relations, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, education and culture. The discussions reflect the growing strategic importance of the partnership between India and Armenia.

Defence cooperation remains an important pillar of bilateral ties. India has emerged as a significant defence supplier to Armenia, while both countries have shown interest in expanding cooperation in defence technology and related areas.

Economic cooperation offers another area for expansion. Both countries can explore greater collaboration in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, clean energy, mining and digital technologies, while stronger business-to-business engagement could support investment and trade opportunities.

The meeting also highlights the broader strategic significance of India's engagement with the South Caucasus. Stronger India-Armenia relations could contribute to greater connectivity and economic cooperation between India and the region.

India and Armenia have maintained diplomatic relations since 1992, with their partnership gradually expanding beyond traditional political engagement into defence, trade, education, culture and technology.
