JSW Group plans nearly ₹50,000 crore in West Bengal across power, ports, cement and steel, with a second 1,600-MW Salboni power unit planned for January 2027.

JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal has outlined investment plans worth nearly ₹50,000 crore in West Bengal, covering power generation, power systems, ports, cement and steel. The proposed investments came into focus during his meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the state secretariat, Nabanna, in Kolkata. The discussions centred on expanding the group's industrial presence and exploring additional investment opportunities across the state.

Following the meeting, Jindal said the group's investment in Bengal currently stood at close to ₹50,000 crore. Of this amount, approximately ₹40,000 crore is earmarked for the power sector, while the remaining ₹10,000 crore is planned for other areas. He described the meeting as positive and expressed support for the state's investment environment.

A major component of the group's expansion plans involves its power projects at Salboni in Paschim Medinipur district. JSW Energy began work in April 2025 on a 1,600-megawatt thermal power plant at the location, involving an investment of approximately ₹16,000 crore. The project is among the largest greenfield power developments in the company's portfolio and represents a significant private-sector investment in West Bengal's energy infrastructure.

The group is also planning a second 1,600-megawatt unit at Salboni, which would increase the proposed capacity of the power complex to 3,200 MW. Chief Minister Adhikari said Jindal had committed to conducting the groundbreaking ceremony for the second unit in the first week of January 2027. The ceremony is expected to follow a public hearing scheduled for December.

Beyond power generation, JSW is exploring opportunities in port infrastructure, cement and steel. JSW Infrastructure is investing approximately ₹1,500 crore to modernise facilities and operations at the Kolkata Dock System. The group is also interested in developing a deep-sea port at Dadanpatrabar, which could strengthen maritime infrastructure and cargo-handling capacity in the region.

JSW has an established industrial presence in West Bengal, including steel and cement operations, alongside its ongoing power development at Salboni. The company has also developed plans for an industrial park with plug-and-play infrastructure in the area.
