L&T, BEL Partner to Strengthen India's 5th-Gen Fighter Jet

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into a partnership with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to assist the Indian Air Force's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, which is India's aspirational fifth-generation fighter aircraft programme.

The new consortium is anticipated to reply to the Government of India’s Expression of Interest in the coming weeks. The L&T BEL partnership strengthens India’s 5th-gen fighter jet programme, supporting Indian Air Force modernisation with advanced defence technology and cutting-edge aerospace systems India.

This partnership combines L&T’s established capabilities in strategic defence and aerospace platforms with BEL’s depth of skills and capabilities in defence electronics and systems. This collaboration aligns with Make in India defence initiatives, promoting indigenous fighter aircraft development through L&T defence projects and BEL aerospace collaboration.

The collaborative effort aims to provide advanced mission-ready solutions for the Indian Air Force and accomplish the national vision of developing an Atmanirbhar Bharat while being fully aligned with the national strategy.

Both organizations have been instrumental in the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft program, supplying significant aero-structure modules to mission-critical avionics and electronic systems. T

he partnership plans to take this to another level by delivering a next generation platform that can provide India with enhanced self-reliance in defence technology.

Commenting on the collaboration, S.N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman & Managing Director of L&T, noted that the partnership will help to enhance indigenisation and to reduce dependency on external sources.

Manoj Jain, Chairman & Managing Director of BEL, acknowledged that the AMCA program demonstrates that India has made advances in its technological development and progress in aerospace innovation.
