US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has described India as a “great partner” and expressed strong willingness to significantly increase American energy exports to meet India’s rising energy demands. The statement was made ahead of his maiden visit to India, scheduled from May 23 to 26.

While addressing the media in Miami, Rubio highlighted the robust bilateral relationship between the two nations and positioned energy cooperation as a critical area of growth. “We want to sell them as much energy as they’ll buy,” he remarked, citing record US energy production and export capabilities. He confirmed that talks to deepen energy ties are already in progress and expressed hope that India would increase its share of US energy imports.

Rubio also touched upon potential opportunities involving Venezuelan oil supplies amid uncertainties in global energy markets. He noted that the US is prepared to step in as a reliable supplier, especially if disruptions like the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz affect international energy flows.
