MGL Assures Uninterrupted Gas Supply
- MGL assures uninterrupted PNG supply amid LPG concerns.
- ₹500 free gas offered to new PNG customers.
- Govt pushes shift from LPG to piped gas systems.
Concerned about LPG availability due to the West Asia crisis, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has promised its customers that supply of piped natural gas (PNG) would not be interrupted and has also offered several incentives to those who want to get new connections. According to the company, its PNG infrastructure still operates efficiently as adequate gas is available to meet requirements.
Such a statement appears even when disruptions are causing supply chain problems of LPG. At the same time, the reassurance is given when both households and commercial users are turning to PNG as a more reliable option. In order to facilitate the switch quickly, MGL is providing new domestic customers with a free gas credit of 500 when they sign up for PNG connections during the campaign period.

This step is one of the several industry measures that aim at reducing reliance on LPG cylinders and at alleviating the burden on traditional energy sources. The action is consistent with government strategies that focus on increasing the use of PNG. Officials have been motivating consumers to switch to piped gas, with numerous city gas distributors offering incentives such as elimination of charges and promotional gifts to draw new users.
This transition was further backed by changes in policy. For instance, the authorities limited the distribution of LPG to those homes that were already connected with a PNG, with a view to preventing duplication and also giving priority to LPG supply in the areas not having LPG pipeline access.
In general, MGL offer of assured supply and the monetary benefits scheme are reflective of the larger change in India’s way of energy use - presently, switching from one time delivery system of cylinder-based LPG to the continuous, pipeline-based gas supply, especially in the urban areas where the infrastructures are already available is being considered.
