Indian Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met the highest officials of Liechtenstein recently to hold talks on the economic cooperation enhancement and the progressive implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
The visit is very important as it represents the first time an Indian cabinet minister has visited Liechtenstein, highlighting the increasing speed of the bilateral relations after the trade pact's activation.
Through a series of posts on X, Goyal mentioned that the bond is aimed at the investment flows expansion, manufacturing enhancement, and job creation.
The meeting with Liechtenstein Prime Minister Brigitte Haas was really productive, as they were discussing the importation of India's vast population of young and skilled workers plus the country's industrial and manufacturing capabilities to international markets. Both parties investigated ways to cooperate in their areas of strength for the purpose of achieving sustainable and mutually beneficial growth.
“We discussed strengthening economic and investment ties, with a focus on the India-EFTA TEPA to boost investment flows, manufacturing growth & job creation, resulting in mutual prosperity for both our nations. Also, exchanged views on cooperation in skill development, vocational training, and industry-academia linkages, combining India's young talent with Liechtenstein's advanced industrial capabilities”, Goyal stated.
Goyal also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabine Monauni and their conversation was centered around the themes of trade expansion, innovation, and cooperation in new sectors. The dialogue signified a common desire to establish long-lasting economic ties that would be based on technology and innovation.

In a post on X, he mentioned, “We discussed opportunities for trade expansion, innovation & clean tech, and explored ways to deepen our mutually beneficial ties, especially after the operationalisation of the India-EFTA TEPA. Emphasised that our unique partnership, where India brings talent, scale & demand, and Liechtenstein contributes high-value manufacturing & specialised engineering, offers significant scope to accelerate trade, investment, and technology flows”.
During the official visit to H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, Goyal pointed out that the TEPA is a positive factor in the integration of the two economies.
He stated that the industrial know-how of Liechtenstein is very much in line with the Make in India campaign of India and thus, there come the areas for cooperation like sustainable finance, green investments, energy transition and climate change.
Goyal further mentioned that the cooperation would also lead to the upskilling of the Indian workforce. “My visit, which is first by an Indian Cabinet Minister to this country, reflects how the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) is bringing our two economies closer. I also handed over a letter from PM @NarendraModi ji inviting H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois to visit India to attend the India-AI Impact Summit being held in New Delhi in February 2026”, he added.
The India–EFTA TEPA, includes alongside India the countries of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. The objective of the agreement is to draw capital and technology into India and at the same time to make the global supply chains more resilient, thus positioning the partner countries as reliable investors and innovators.
