PM Modi to Launch ₹21,800 Crore Pune Metro Projects
PM Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro's 23-km Pink Line and launch Phase-II expansion projects worth ₹21,800 crore, improving connectivity between major IT, residential and commercial centres.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro Line 3, also known as the Pink Line, and lay the foundation stone for Phase-II metro expansion projects with a combined investment of approximately ₹21,800 crore on November 3, 2026. The projects are expected to strengthen urban transport infrastructure, improve connectivity across key employment centres and provide commuters with an expanded public transportation network.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 23-kilometre Pink Line, developed at a cost of more than ₹8,300 crore. The corridor connects Maan to District Court Metro station, linking the Hinjewadi IT hub with Shivajinagar. It will integrate with Pune's existing metro network, improving access to major commercial, residential and employment areas.

The new corridor is expected to benefit thousands of IT professionals and other daily commuters by providing an alternative to private vehicles. It is also aimed at reducing road congestion and vehicular emissions. A notable feature of the Pink Line is that it will be operated entirely by women train operators. Around 30 per cent of its electricity requirements are envisaged to be met through solar power.
Alongside the inauguration, Modi will lay the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase-II, estimated to cost around ₹13,500 crore. The expansion will comprise four corridors: Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A, connecting several important residential, commercial and information technology centres across the city.
Lines 2A and 2B will together cover approximately 12.75 kilometres. Line 2A will connect Vanaz with Chandani Chowk, while Line 2B will extend from Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi. The 25.52-kilometre Line 4 will connect Kharadi with Khadakwasla, while the 6.12-kilometre Line 4A will link Nal Stop with Manik Baug.
The proposed corridors will serve key locations, including Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug, Nanded City, Pune Cantonment and Warje. The Ramwadi–Vitthalwadi extension is expected to improve connectivity to the growing residential, commercial and IT areas of Kharadi and Wagholi.

Interchange facilities at Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass will connect the new corridors with the existing metro network and intercity bus services. These links are intended to make travel across Pune more integrated and convenient.
Together, the projects are expected to expand the city's public transport capacity, improve access to major urban centres and support the development of a more connected and sustainable mobility network.
