Rajasthan Inks Pact to Lead Battery Energy Storage Push
- Rajasthan government signs MoU with India Energy Storage Alliance to boost energy storage and clean energy initiatives
- The state has awarded 6,000 MWh of BESS projects and plans India’s largest single-location energy storage at Pugal Solar Park
- IESA will support renewable integration, grid stability, skill development, and attract investments in energy storage and e-mobility
The Government of Rajasthan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) in order to explore and develop the potentials in the energy sector, especially in the areas of energy storage and clean energy solutions.
The partnership will be a support for Rajasthan's dreams of renewable energy and storage. In a statement, Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary, Energy stated, “This collaboration with the IESA will help the state to become a leader in BESS [battery energy storage system] projects in the country”.
On this day, Sharma let it out that Rajasthan has recently approved the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects which are going to add up to 6,000 megawatt-hours.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the state is going to set up the biggest energy storage capacity in India at one place, which is the Pugal Solar Park. These initiatives are believed to significantly improve the state's power infrastructure and facilitate the use of renewable energy sources to a great extent.

IESA President Debmalya Sen stated that the cooperation would help the Rajasthan government in speeding up the process of energy storage systems deployment. Grid stability, renewable energy integration support, and 24/7 power supply will all be the benefits.
He pointed out that energy storage will be decisive for the sector by providing electricity that is both reliable and sustainable as the renewable capacity keeps growing.
The Memorandum of Understanding also provides for IESA's participation in skill development and capacity building in Rajasthan through the organization of training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing activities for stakeholders.
Furthermore, the partnership will draw in both domestic and foreign investments in energy storage, e-mobility, and clean energy value chains, making Rajasthan the first choice for advanced energy technologies in India.
