Renewable Energy India Expo 2026 to Unlock Rs 2,800 Cr in Bioenergy
REI Expo 2026 is expected to unlock over ₹2,800 crore in bioenergy investments, with the event focusing on CBG, waste-to-energy and technologies supporting India’s circular bioeconomy.
The Renewable Energy India Expo (REI) 2026 is expected to unlock more than ₹2,800 crore in fresh investment for India’s bioenergy sector, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA). The three-day exhibition is scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida.
The expected investment pipeline represents nearly 12% of the ₹23,731 crore GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, which was approved by the Union Cabinet in August and came into effect on September 1, 2026. The scheme is designed to support the expansion of India’s circular bioeconomy and increase domestic compressed biogas (CBG) production.

According to the IBA, the expo will bring together investors, project developers, technology providers and policymakers, providing a platform to convert policy support into commercial bioenergy projects. The association said the event can contribute to the government’s objective of increasing domestic CBG production nearly tenfold by 2035-36.
The Bio-Energy Pavilion at REI 2026, supported by the IBA, will be the largest edition so far, with 35% more exhibitors than in 2025. It will feature participation from technology companies, startups and policymakers and showcase solutions covering waste-to-energy, CBG production, co-digestion models and digital monitoring technologies. The pavilion is supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The GOBARdhan scheme provides several measures intended to support CBG projects. These include an administered CBG price of ₹2,110 per MMBtu, assured offtake mandates for the CNG and PNG segments, and capital assistance of up to ₹2 crore per tonne per day for eligible greenfield CBG plants. The scheme also provides support for pipeline infrastructure and credit guarantees.
The IBA said India has the potential to produce more than 62 million tonnes of CBG annually. Increased production could support fuel substitution, waste management and employment across rural and urban areas, while strengthening the use of organic waste as an energy resource.

REI 2026 is expected to attract more than 70,000 participants from India and overseas. Besides bioenergy, the expo will cover solar, wind, hydrogen, electric mobility and energy storage technologies.
The investment pipeline expected from the event comes as policy measures and industry participation expand around CBG and other bioenergy technologies. The IBA expects the expo to provide opportunities for project developers and technology providers to engage with investors and identify potential partnerships.
