  • Solex Energy invests ₹4000 crore in Gujarat
  • Project includes solar manufacturing and BESS facility
  • Investment supports India’s renewable energy and manufacturing growth

In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem, Solex Energy has announced an investment of ₹4,000 crore to establish an integrated solar cell manufacturing facility and a battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Gujarat. The initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government, reinforcing Gujarat’s position as a key hub for clean-tech investments.

The proposed project will include a 5 GW solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing plant, to be developed in phases. The first phase will deliver a capacity of 2 GW, followed by an additional 3 GW in the second phase. Alongside this, the company will set up a large-scale 10 GW BESS facility, aimed at enhancing energy storage capabilities and improving grid stability.

This dual-focus approach, combining solar manufacturing with energy storage, reflects a broader industry shift toward integrated renewable ecosystems. By aligning production capabilities with storage infrastructure, the project is expected to address intermittency challenges associated with renewable energy and enable more reliable power supply systems. From a strategic standpoint, the investment is expected to contribute significantly to India’s clean energy targets while supporting domestic manufacturing.

The initiative aligns with the government’s push for self-reliance in critical sectors and aims to reduce dependence on imports for solar components. Additionally, the project is likely to generate employment opportunities and drive industrial growth in the region. The MoU does not involve any equity participation or financial stake from the Gujarat government but is intended to facilitate infrastructure development and ease of execution.

Industry observers view the move as part of a larger trend where Indian renewable energy firms are scaling up manufacturing capacities to meet rising domestic and global demand. With increasing emphasis on sustainability and energy transition, investments of this scale are expected to play a critical role in shaping the country’s green energy future.

Overall, the project underscores Solex Energy’s long-term commitment to expanding its footprint in advanced renewable technologies while contributing to India’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.
