Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong discuss economic ties and investment opportunities, as both sides seek to deepen cooperation across key industries.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay held discussions with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong on strengthening economic relations and expanding investment opportunities between Singapore and Tamil Nadu.

The engagement comes amid efforts by the Tamil Nadu government to attract foreign investment and deepen international partnerships across key industries. Singapore considers Tamil Nadu an important economic partner, with Singapore-based companies operating in sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital services and real estate.

The discussions reflect the potential for greater collaboration in areas that support Tamil Nadu’s industrial development and economic growth. Chennai, the state capital, has an established manufacturing and technology ecosystem, making it a significant destination for international businesses.

Singapore’s economic presence in Tamil Nadu also includes infrastructure and logistics projects. Companies from the city-state have participated in port operations, urban transport and digital infrastructure, contributing to the state’s industrial and commercial connectivity.

The meeting follows earlier engagement between Vijay and Singapore High Commissioner to India Simon Wong, who met the Chief Minister in Chennai on October 5. During that interaction, Wong highlighted the longstanding historical, cultural and economic relationship between Singapore and Tamil Nadu and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation.

Singapore and India have also been expanding cooperation through bilateral initiatives covering advanced manufacturing, digitalisation, skills development, healthcare and connectivity. The two countries’ fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, held in August 2026, reaffirmed their commitment to creating trade and investment opportunities and advancing the National Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing in Chennai.
