Toyota Kirloskar, Kamarajar Port Extend Pact to Boost Auto Exports

In a further endorsement of India's growing reputation as a global automotive exporting hub, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed an updated Wharfage Rate Agreement with Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL). This landmark brings added value to TKM's commitment to the Make in India initiative, while at the same time strengthening the company's international supply chain integration.

The renewal of the agreement was signed at Kamarajar Port in the presence of senior staff from TKM and KPL and other stakeholders from the automotive and shipping sectors. Since 2012, Kamarajar Port has been TKM's primary export facility, demonstrating a collaborative relationship based on efficiency and global competitiveness..

Since sending its first shipment of 247 Toyota Etios units to South Africa in April 2012, TKM has vastly expanded its reach across the globe. Over 180,000 Completely Built Units (CBUs) have been successfully exported via KPL to a wide array of countries, including South Africa, France, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The existing export model, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder also adheres to quality international standards supported by KPL's vast infrastructure and logistics capability.

Yoshinori Noritake, Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at TKM identified the role of KPL in export function emphasis on the strategic importance of the partnership: "KPL plays a pivotal role in our export performance, and for us to become great in manufacturing and supply chain, KPL is on our side with this! Their support is essential for the Government of India to create a futuristic automotive export hub!"

Sunil Paliwal, IAS – Chairman of KPL and Chennai Port Authority, shared those thoughts: “Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been one of our earliest and most trusted automotive collaborators. Our journey together exemplifies our mutual commitment to growing automotive export together with sustainable, future-ready port facilities.”

This renewed agreement represents more than the facilitation of logistics, it exemplifies India's growing position and significance in the global automotive supply chain. Working with KPL's tailored infrastructure, TKM is able to supply the world with world-class vehicles, while providing jobs, localizing content, and driving industrial development in India.
