  • Yuma Energy and Motovolt Mobility will deploy battery-swappable M7 electric scooters for fleet use across India
  • The partnership aims to roll out 15,000 scooters by 2026, targeting delivery and shared mobility operators
  • Battery swapping will lower upfront costs, reduce downtime, and ease EV adoption

Yuma Energy, a company that runs a battery-as-a-service platform, has made a bold step in the right direction by entering into a strategic alliance with Motovolt Mobility, an electric two-wheeler manufacturer, for the introduction of battery-swapping electric scooters to operate in fleets all over India.

Range anxiety, the issue of high upfront battery costs, and the problem of vehicle downtime are all among the hurdles that are being addressed through the collaboration which has been going on for some time now.

M7, the multi-utility electric scooter which is manufactured by Motovolt, will be used in conjunction with the battery swapping technology of Yuma Energy through the implementation of the agreement.

A total of 15,000 M7 scooters are planned to be rolled out by the two companies by the end of 2026, mainly targeting fleet customers such as last-mile delivery services and shared mobility operators who require high vehicle availability and operational efficiency.

A major aspect of the alliance is the splitting of battery ownership from vehicle ownership. Fleet operators will no longer have to buy batteries at once as they will be able to use power from Yuma Energy's growing battery swapping network instead.

The adoption of this model is believed to make a great reduction in the initial capital expenditure, a reduction in the charging downtimes, and an overall improvement in the operating economics in crowded urban areas and semi-urban places where the markets are.

Muthu Subramanian, Yuma Energy's Managing Director & General Manager, remarked that the collaboration would further enforce the ecosystem of reliability, convenience, and rapid adoption of electric mobility. He pointed out that a large-scale battery swapping infrastructure is very important for the fast electrification of fleets.

Tushar Choudhary, the Founder & CEO of Motovolt Mobility, stated that the partnership is consistent with the company’s aim to manufacture electric two-wheelers that are not only practical but also utility-driven and affordable for all Indian commuters and last-mile delivery needs.
