Defence Ministry Signs 661.50 Crore BrahMos Systems Deal
The Defence Ministry signs a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace for fire control systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships, with 68% indigenous content and participation from Indian industries and MSMEs.
The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹661.50 crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the procurement of BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships. The agreement was signed in New Delhi on October 6 under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The contract covers systems intended for installation on frontline Indian Navy warships. The BrahMos weapon system currently serves as the Navy’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations. According to the Ministry of Defence, it can engage both land and sea targets at extended ranges and at supersonic speeds.

The procurement carries a minimum indigenous content requirement of 68%. The Ministry said the project will encourage wider participation by Indian industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), in the defence supply chain. It is also expected to generate employment over a period of three years.
The deal forms part of the government’s continuing efforts to increase domestic procurement and strengthen indigenous capabilities in advanced defence technology. By placing the contract under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, the procurement is aligned with the broader emphasis on indigenously designed, developed and manufactured defence systems.
The BrahMos system is deployed on several frontline warships and provides the Indian Navy with a surface-to-surface strike capability against maritime and land-based targets. The fire control system and launchers are key components of the shipborne weapon system, supporting the deployment and operation of BrahMos missiles from naval platforms.
The contract also adds to the ongoing expansion of BrahMos capabilities within the Indian Navy. The missile system is being integrated across different classes of warships, while existing vessels are also being equipped with the system as part of phased modernisation efforts.
The Ministry said the latest procurement will strengthen India’s maritime security architecture and defence capabilities while supporting the indigenisation of advanced military technology. Increased involvement of domestic companies and MSMEs is also expected to expand the defence manufacturing ecosystem and contribute to employment generation.
