Indian Navy to Receive 20 Advanced Jammers

Synopsis: The Ministry of Defence signs a 449 crore contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems to procure 20 advanced GNSS jammers for the Indian Navy, strengthening electronic warfare and navigation-denial capabilities.

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth 449 crore with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers for the Indian Navy. The acquisition is aimed at enhancing the Navy’s electronic warfare capabilities and strengthening its ability to operate effectively in contested and GPS-denied environments.

The ECGNSS jammers are designed to disrupt and deny the use of satellite-based navigation systems by adversaries, thereby improving the operational effectiveness and survivability of naval platforms during missions. As modern military operations increasingly rely on satellite navigation and positioning systems, the ability to counter such technologies has become a critical component of electronic warfare strategies.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the new systems will enable the Indian Navy to maintain a tactical advantage in challenging operational scenarios where hostile forces may depend heavily on global navigation satellite systems for targeting, surveillance, and communication. The jammers are expected to provide robust capabilities for disrupting enemy navigation signals while ensuring greater mission security and operational flexibility.

The contract also underscores India’s continued emphasis on indigenous defence manufacturing and technological self-reliance. Accord Software and Systems, a Bengaluru-based technology company with expertise in navigation and positioning solutions, will supply the systems under the government’s broader push to strengthen domestic defence production capabilities and reduce dependence on imports.

The procurement aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize the Indian Navy’s electronic warfare infrastructure amid evolving maritime security challenges. Defence planners increasingly view electronic warfare systems as force multipliers capable of enhancing situational awareness, protecting assets, and disrupting adversary operations across the electromagnetic spectrum.
