India and Belgium have agreed to strengthen cooperation in civil aviation, with discussions focusing on direct air connectivity, specialised air cargo for pharmaceuticals and emerging advanced air mobility technologies. The understanding was reached during a meeting between Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever in New Delhi.

A key priority is the development of direct air connectivity between India and Belgium. Improved links are expected to facilitate passenger movement, support tourism and strengthen business interactions between the two countries. The initiative assumes greater significance as India-Belgium economic engagement expands across trade, investment and technology.

The two sides also discussed strengthening air cargo infrastructure and services for the high-value pharmaceutical sector. The discussions took place during De Wever’s three-day official visit to India from September 2 to 4. His visit has focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment ties, with both countries seeking to broaden cooperation across strategic sectors. The engagement also comes amid progress on the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to create additional opportunities for commercial exchanges once implemented.
