
Jaishankar to Visit Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and Ethiopia on 3-Nation Tour
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar begins a five-day visit to Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia to strengthen bilateral ties, with discussions covering trade, economic cooperation, development, capacity building and people-to-people ties.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has begun a five-day official visit to Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Ethiopia from October 6 to 10, 2026, aimed at strengthening India’s bilateral partnerships with the three African countries. The visit will include discussions on trade, economic cooperation, development partnerships, capacity building and people-to-people ties.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and meet the leadership of all three countries to review existing relations and identify opportunities for further cooperation. The discussions will also cover regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The visit begins in Ghana, where Jaishankar is scheduled to engage with the country’s leadership and foreign affairs officials. Ghana’s Foreign Ministry said the visit would provide an opportunity to advance cooperation in areas including pharmaceutical development, agricultural mechanisation and value addition, industrialisation, job creation, scholarships and information technology partnerships.
Jaishankar will subsequently travel to Côte d’Ivoire, where discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding economic and development ties. The visit forms part of India’s broader engagement with African countries, including cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure development and capacity building.
The final leg of the visit will take Jaishankar to Ethiopia. During his stay in Addis Ababa, he will chair the Regional Heads of Mission Conference, bringing together Indian diplomatic representatives from the region. The conference is expected to provide an opportunity to review India’s engagement across Africa and discuss regional developments.
The MEA has described the visit as part of India’s efforts to deepen its partnership with Africa and strengthen its engagement with the Global South. The three countries are important partners for India in areas ranging from economic and development cooperation to capacity building and diplomatic engagement.

Jaishankar’s visit also comes as India seeks to expand its economic and strategic engagement across the African continent. Discussions during the tour are expected to examine existing cooperation as well as opportunities for new partnerships in trade, investment, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, technology and other areas of mutual interest.
The five-day tour is expected to provide further momentum to India’s bilateral relations with Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia while reinforcing India’s wider diplomatic and economic engagement with African countries.
