Luxembourg Deputy PM Bettel to Visit India, Meet Jaishankar
Luxembourg Deputy PM Xavier Bettel is visiting India from September 7–9 for talks with EAM S. Jaishankar and engagements in Chennai, including IIT Madras and the inauguration of an SES campus, with technology and innovation high on the agenda.
Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel is visiting India from September 7 to 9 for discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across emerging areas. During the three-day official visit, Bettel is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi.
Bettel will hold talks with Jaishankar at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on September 7. The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to review the multifaceted India-Luxembourg relationship and explore avenues for greater collaboration. The visit follows Jaishankar’s meeting with Bettel in Luxembourg earlier this year, where the two sides discussed opportunities in areas including financial technology, space and artificial intelligence.

The Luxembourg deputy prime minister will also travel to Chennai as part of the visit. His programme includes engagements at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, including a visit to the IIT Madras Research Park. Bettel is also scheduled to inaugurate a new campus of Luxembourg-based satellite and communications company SES in Chennai, highlighting the growing technology and innovation dimension of bilateral ties.
India and Luxembourg established diplomatic relations in 1948 and have developed cooperation across political, economic and multilateral platforms. Luxembourg opened its embassy in New Delhi in February 2002 and also maintains honorary consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. The two countries have continued to identify new areas for cooperation as India strengthens its engagement with European economies.
The visit also comes at a time when India is seeking deeper economic and technology partnerships with European countries. Discussions on fintech, space and AI could provide scope for collaboration involving financial services, digital technologies, research and advanced communications.
Bettel’s Chennai engagements further underline the importance of education, research and technology in the bilateral relationship. The interaction with IIT Madras and the inauguration of the SES campus could strengthen institutional and commercial linkages between the two countries.
