India's defence exports show steady progress towards reaching record levels which demonstrate the country's increasing capacity to produce military equipment and participate in international defence commerce. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior officials report that India has experienced substantial growth in defence exports since recent years with the sector reaching its highest export levels during the 2025-26 fiscal years.
The exports reached their maximum point at ₹38,424 crore which represented a substantial growth of more than 62 percent when compared to the exports of the previous fiscal year. The government has been actively promoting self-reliance in defence production under initiatives such as "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" which aims to reduce dependence on imports while building up local manufacturing capabilities.
The sector experienced growth because of three factors including better business conditions and increased support for private sector companies and new policy changes. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and private companies have both played a crucial role in driving export growth which has established a balanced market framework that enables competition between both sectors.
