Air India just raised its fuel charge on both domestic and overseas flights. Fuel prices spiked because of war issues in west Asia. That's made operations more expensive. The airline built a step-by-step system to cover rising fuel bills. So it now charges differently based on where you're flying and how far it is.
Domestic trips and those within SAARC get a flat 399 for new bookings. International fares vary, $10 for west Asia, $60 for southeast Asia, up to $90 in africa. Longer journeys to europe or north America will see even higher fees later this year. These adjustments reflect real-time market swings caused by regional conflicts. Jet fuel prices climbed sharply after supply lines got disrupted.

Air India says the hikes are necessary to keep services running safely. The company doesn't offer refunds when fuel costs go up. Travelers should expect changes in their bill soon. Flight fuel costs are spiking, and airlines now pass more of it onto travelers. Domestic surcharges rise with distance, at the same time international routes face steeper hikes because long-haul flights burn far more fuel.
These new rates start in April 2026 for all new bookings - but old tickets stay unchanged. Fuel shortages from the strait of hormuz have pushed airlines to adjust prices directly. Supply chains remain tight. Making fuel harder to secure at stable prices.
Governments try to keep domestic aviation fuel fees under control so planes can still fly without collapsing financially. Still, rising expenses force carriers to shift burdens to customers.
