Australia FM Penny Wong to Visit India for Quad Meet

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong is scheduled to visit India to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, as the four-member grouping intensifies cooperation on regional security, economic resilience, and Indo-Pacific stability. India is hosting the ministerial-level meeting in its capacity as the current chair of the Quad coalition.

The Quad, comprising India, the United States, Australia, and Japan, has emerged as a major strategic platform focused on maintaining peace, stability, and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region. The upcoming meeting is expected to bring together India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and Wong for discussions on shared geopolitical and economic priorities.

Ahead of the visit, Wong described the Quad as a “vital partnership” during a period of global uncertainty. She stated that the four countries are working collectively to shape a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future for the Indo-Pacific region. Wong also highlighted ongoing cooperation in maritime security, critical minerals supply chains, infrastructure development, and disaster relief initiatives.

During her stay in India, Wong is also expected to hold the 17th Australia-India Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue with Jaishankar. The bilateral discussions are likely to focus on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, defence and maritime security, climate and energy transition, strategic technologies, education, and skills development.

Officials from participating countries indicate that the Quad meeting will further deepen strategic coordination on regional security challenges, supply-chain resilience, and emerging geopolitical developments across the Indo-Pacific. Critical minerals and secure technology partnerships are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions as member nations attempt to reduce vulnerabilities linked to global supply dependencies.

The meeting comes amid increasing geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific region and renewed efforts by Quad members to strengthen diplomatic and strategic cooperation. Analysts believe the gathering will reinforce the Quad’s growing role as an influential regional platform addressing security, economic, and technological challenges facing the Indo-Pacific.
