
CtrlS, NTPC Green Partner for 2GW Renewable Projects
- CtrlS & NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) to develop up to 2 GW of grid-connected renewable energy
- NGEL, a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, targets 60 GW capacity by 2032
- CtrlS operates 16 datacenters in India and is expanding into global markets
Recently, CtrlS Datacenters announced that it has entered into a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) to jointly develop grid-connected renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of up to 2 gigawatts (GW) or more.
This was signed by CtrlS Founder & CEO Sridhar Pinnapureddy and NGEL CEO Sarit Maheshwari. CtrlS Datacenters has partnered with NTPC Green to advance renewable energy initiatives, focusing on data center sustainability through green power, solar projects, and wind energy, contributing to India’s energy transition.
In a statement, the company stated, “As part of the MoU, CtrlS and NGEL aim to jointly establish grid-connected renewable energy projects/assets with a capacity of up to 2 GW or more through greenfield development and/or acquisitions, for the supply of renewable power to CtrlS for its captive consumption on mutual agreement or any other business as may be mutually decided between the Parties. The MoU shall be in force for two years with a provision to extend further”.

NGEL, which is a subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, currently has 8.9 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation with a further 3 GW under implementation while planning to reach 60 GW by 2032.
Pinnapureddy referred to the cooperation as a significant milestone in developing a sustainable digital ecosystem.
He added, “Partnering with NGEL enables us to power our datacenters with renewable energy, enhance efficiency, and advance our commitment to net-zero operations. Together, we're demonstrating that innovation and sustainability can - and must - go hand in hand in driving the next era of digital infrastructure”.
Based in Hyderabad and founded in 2007, CtrlS operates 16 datacenters in 9 key markets in India and is zeroing in on bringing renewable power into its operations. CtrlS is also considering opportunities to expand globally, particularly in the Middle East and Southeast Asia as part of a sustainability and growth strategy, the company said.
