India, Arab League Reaffirm Partnership and Expand Cooperation

India and the League of Arab States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-Arab partnership, with discussions focused on implementing the 2026-28 Executive Programme and developing cooperation in new and emerging areas.

India and the League of Arab States have reiterated their support to bolster the India-Arab cooperation, during which both sides discussed the newly emerging fields of cooperation and how to promote the ongoing one. These talks were held after a high-level meeting between officials from India and the Arab League in Cairo.

Sripriya Ranganathan, Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) at the Ministry of External Affairs, met Ambassador Khalid Manzalawi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. The meeting focused on advancing the Executive Programme 2026-28, which was adopted during the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The two sides discussed translating the programme into concrete initiatives in new and emerging areas of cooperation. The engagement reflects India's efforts to broaden its relationship with Arab countries beyond established areas and create additional opportunities for institutional and economic collaboration.

The India-Arab partnership has expanded significantly in recent years, covering areas such as trade, investment, energy, technology, education, healthcare and cultural exchanges. Strengthening cooperation in emerging sectors could provide further opportunities for businesses and institutions on both sides.

The current meeting is also coinciding with India's ongoing efforts to reach out to the Arab countries at various multilateral and regional forums. As India continues to look toward an enhanced relationship with West Asia and further economic and diplomatic integration in the region, the Arab League is also a key partner.

Ranganathan also attended the India-Egypt BRICS Partnership Conference organized by the Embassy of India in Egypt in association with the Indian Council of World Affairs at Cairo during his visit. She spoke at the first-ever conference and pointed out the priorities of India as the Chair of the BRICS 2026.

She also highlighted the scope for greater cooperation between India and Egypt in BRICS which are both looking to enhance cooperation of their member countries on development and emerging economy issues.

The India-Arab engagement is taking place in the backdrop of India's new focus on the cooperation of the Global South with various countries in West Asia, Africa and other developing nations, particularly in the economic sector and strengthening institutional cooperation.

With the 2026-28 Executive Programme, India and the Arab League seek to take the dialogue a step further to concrete partnership. The current deliberations, therefore, make mention of the push to deepen and extend the India-Arab partnership with greater forward-looking trends, while the emerging sectors are likely to gain more significance.
