India, Germany Eye Growth in AI and Green Hydrogen

India and Germany can strengthen cooperation in AI, R&D, startups, and green hydrogen, with deeper industry partnerships expected to drive innovation, clean energy growth, and globally competitive technologies, says the IGCC.

There is immense scope for further cooperation between India and Germany in the fields of AI, R&D, green hydrogen, and innovations, says Jan Noether, Director General, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC). Addressing the margins of IGCC Industry Dialogue 2026, Noether underlined the increasing vigor in bilateral economic relations, adding that enhanced cooperation among companies, start-ups, and research institutions will bring about innovations and globally competitive technologies.

Another major pillar for the Indo-German cooperation was highlighted by Noether in the form of the rapidly growing startup ecosystem. According to him, the IGCC had just held a startup competition in Bengaluru that had seen about 90 startups participate and present their innovative products and technologies in various industries. As per his analysis, the startup competition had been a clear example of how the innovative ecosystem in India is maturing and how the German companies can join hands with the Indian firms to develop technology-based initiatives.

The use of artificial intelligence represents yet another field where collaboration is a high priority. Noether mentioned that artificial intelligence has become one of the growing fields in the German GCC ecosystem, wherein research, product development, and innovation form the basis of collaboration in the future. It was noted that greater collaboration between Indian and German research organizations, tech companies, and startups could lead to the faster creation of innovative artificial intelligence solutions.

Green hydrogen also became another key sector where the prospects for growth were seen. As stated by Noether, the German government is in a rush to become a leader in terms of clean energy transition and requires plenty of green hydrogen, whereas India has become an effective player due to its rich sources of renewable energy and affordable cost of production. Thus, India has all chances to become a trustworthy provider of green hydrogen and associated technologies.

These remarks are reflective of the larger development of India-Germany collaboration in areas like clean energy, manufacturing, critical technologies, and innovation. In fact, both nations have been making strides recently in collaborating under initiatives related to green hydrogen, critical minerals, semiconductors, and technological cooperation with the goal of strengthening their supply chains.

She said that the use of engineering capabilities in Germany and the innovation capability in India would allow for the development of world-class products and technologies. He pointed out that cooperation in research and collaboration with industry and startups would be helpful for both countries in tackling future challenges and creating new economic opportunities.

This increased emphasis on AI, R&D, and green hydrogen is a clear indicator of how the strategic relationship between India and Germany has changed. With innovation-led growth and the transition to green energy continuing to be of great importance for both countries, there will definitely be further cooperation between business, science, and government sectors.
