  • Both nations are advancing in green transition, space, technology, and boosting cultural exchanges and tourism

During the reception that marked India’s 77th Republic Day at The Ritz-Carlton in Bangkok recently, India and Thailand reiterated their determination to enhance their strategic partnership.

Nagesh Singh, the Indian Ambassador to Thailand, gave a rather optimistic view of the situation, mentioning, for instance, that India was going to be the third-largest economy in the world by 2030.

He stated, “India has been the fastest-growing large economy over the last decade and is widely recognised as a key driver of global economic growth, likely contributing up to one-fifth of global GDP growth in the coming decades”.

He also spoke about India's investment in cutting-edge technologies, like IT, space, and biotechnology, and its strong vow of being a climate-friendly country.

Singh further contributed to the discussion by painting a picture of centuries-old and very potent relations of the two countries in terms of culture, civilization, and trade.

He pointed out the historic boosting of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership that followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Thailand in April 2025.

He added, “This has given strong momentum to our multifaceted relationship. Our economic and commercial ties are expanding, with bilateral trade reaching nearly US$19 billion last year”.

Singh threw light on the gradual but sure interest in the areas of making partnerships that would last and the mounting cooperation in the fields of defense and security to cope with regional challenges.

Moreover, the two countries are teaming up in non-conventional fields such as the green transition, blue economy, space, science, technology, and connectivity, as they move towards knowledge-based economy. Singh emphasized the necessity of a rejuvenated multilateral order and thanked Thailand for its consistent and strong support in the regional and global forums.

The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi congratulated the Republic on its National Day, noting the strong and lasting diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will be 79 years old in 2026.

He pointed out the active cultural exchanges, the increasing number of pilgrims from the two countries, and the significant rise in Indian tourists to Thailand as the main reason for the growing cultural interactions.

He noted, “Together, we can address pressing global issues such as maritime security, human trafficking, online scams, and sustainable development, not as challenges that divide us, but as responsibilities that unite us”.
