NTPC, NPCIL to Invest Rs 42,000 Cr in 2,800 MW Rajasthan Plant
- PM Modi laid the foundation for the ₹42,000 crore, 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Project
- Inaugurated 925 MW Nokh Solar Park; Avaada launched 1,760+ MW solar + storage projects
- Clean, reliable power, 1,600+ green jobs, 20 lakh tons CO2 cut, and major boost to Rajasthan’s economy
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a slew of energy projects in Rajasthan valued at over ₹51,000 crore, notably including the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP).
The NTPC-NPCIL nuclear project at the Mahi Banswara power plant is a 2,800 MW nuclear Rajasthan initiative under the ASHVINI joint venture with a ₹42,000 cr investment. It will strengthen India base load energy through clean energy nuclear PHWR technology.
The nuclear power plant is anticipated to cost ₹42,000 crore and will be one of the largest in the country. The project represents NTPC’s entry into the nuclear generation market and will be executed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI), a joint venture company set up between NPCIL, which holds 51%, and NTPC, which owns a 49% share. Together the partners will bring financial power, technical expertise, and project execution experience to the project.
The MBRAPP will feature four units of 700 MW each that will supply clean, reliable, and affordable baseload energy to Rajasthan and other states and is set to enhance India’s nuclear energy capacity and create substantial direct and indirect jobs and business opportunities.

The NTPC noted that the project would also enhance India’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the low-carbon energy transition.
In addition, in Rajasthan, Modi also inaugurated the RSDCL Nokh Solar Park (925 MW), where NTPC is building a solar facility with 735 MW of capacity. The solar park and MBRAPP will significantly add to the state's energy mix for economic development.
Meanwhile, the Avaada Group announced that it is laying foundation stones for two significant renewable projects in Rajasthan: a 1,560 MWp solar plant with 2,500 MWh of battery storage in Pugal, and 200 MW (282 MWp) of solar power in Dungargarh.
Vineet Mittal, Chairman of Avaada Group stated, "We are committed to empowering communities, creating livelihoods, and shaping a sustainable, self-reliant nation".
Together, these projects account for investment of over ₹9,200 crore, are expected to provide 1,600 green jobs, reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2 million tons/year, and save almost 600 million liters of water by using a robotic cleaning system.
