Synopsis: The Ministry of MSME plans new policy interventions and schemes to strengthen India's MSME ecosystem, with a focus on manufacturing, innovation, technology adoption, and improving access to finance.

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is preparing a fresh set of policy interventions and schemes to strengthen India's MSME sector, with a particular focus on enhancing manufacturing capabilities, competitiveness, and long-term growth. The announcement was made by Mercy Epao, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, who highlighted the sector's critical contribution to employment generation, industrial development, and the country's economic progress.

Speaking on the ministry's ongoing efforts, Epao said the government has launched a nationwide consultation exercise to gather suggestions from MSMEs and industry stakeholders. The initiative has already received around 2,000 recommendations, which will be evaluated to shape future policies aimed at addressing the sector's evolving needs. The consultation process is intended to ensure that upcoming reforms are aligned with industry requirements while strengthening the overall manufacturing ecosystem.

The proposed measures are expected to focus on improving access to finance, encouraging technology adoption, promoting innovation, supporting digital transformation, and enhancing market access for small businesses. The government also aims to simplify regulatory processes and create an enabling environment that allows MSMEs to scale operations, improve productivity, and compete more effectively in domestic and international markets.

According to Epao, MSMEs remain a key pillar of India's economy, contributing significantly to manufacturing output, exports, and employment. Strengthening the sector is considered essential for achieving the country's broader economic development objectives, particularly as India seeks to expand its manufacturing base and enhance global competitiveness. She emphasized that continuous policy support and stakeholder participation will play a crucial role in building a resilient and future-ready MSME ecosystem.

The upcoming policy initiatives are expected to complement the government's existing MSME support programmes while addressing emerging challenges faced by enterprises. By incorporating industry feedback and introducing targeted reforms, the ministry aims to foster sustainable growth, encourage entrepreneurship, and create new opportunities for businesses across the country. The planned interventions are also expected to strengthen India's manufacturing landscape and reinforce the MSME sector's role as a driver of innovation, employment, and economic development.
