  • TASL and Indra deliver India’s first 3D naval radar, Lanza-N.
  • Karnataka facility supports radar production, integration.
  • Enhances India’s defense self-reliance, detects diverse targets.

Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and Spanish defense firm Indra have delivered India's first indigenously made 3D Air Surveillance Radar (3D-ASR) Lanza-N, which was appointed on an Indian Navy warship. This news from The Economic Times identifies TASL as the first Indian firm to develop advanced naval surveillance radar systems domestically and has contributed to India's enhanced efforts for indigenization in joint defense.

The Lanza-N radar detects low and high-flying and long-range tactical surveillance of friendly and hostile air and surface targets including drones, supersonic fighters, anti-radiation missiles, and naval platforms. The radar underwent extensive sea trials during integration and performed well with the onboard systems. In an effort to support the ramp-up of production, TASL built a dedicated assembly, integration, and testing facility for the radar in Karnataka, streamlining delivery schedules.

Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of TASL, acknowledged the collaboration as a key contributor to building a sustainable ecosystem for advanced defence capabilities through local supply chains and technical capabilities. Ana Buendia, Head of Indra's Naval Business Unit, noted that the collaborative efforts go beyond radar deliveries, with the radar factory in Bengaluru enabling ongoing production and supporting the future needs of the Indian Navy.

This project represents the first time that the Lanza-N radar will be operationally deployed outside of Spain, in a partnership with India's push towards indigenization and defense manufacturing through the initiatives of the India Semiconductor Mission and Make in India. This partnership develops India's strategic capability and offsets reliance on imported defense technologies.
