Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit Nepal on November 4-5 for talks on bilateral relations, as both countries prepare for Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah's proposed visit to India later this month.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will undertake a two-day official visit to Nepal from November 4 to 5, 2026, at the invitation of his Nepali counterpart, Amrit Bahadur Rai. The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral engagement and provide an opportunity for both countries to review their longstanding partnership and discuss areas of mutual interest.

According to Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Misri and Rai will hold bilateral discussions covering the full range of Nepal-India relations. The talks will focus on strengthening cooperation between the neighbouring countries and exchanging views on regional and international developments of common interest. Misri is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on senior Nepali dignitaries during his stay in Kathmandu before departing for New Delhi on November 5.

The visit comes as India and Nepal prepare for a proposed visit by Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah to New Delhi later in November. The trip is expected to be Shah's first official bilateral foreign visit since he assumed office in March 2026. Misri's discussions with Nepali officials are expected to help prepare the agenda and identify priorities for the proposed high-level engagement.

Several areas of cooperation are likely to feature in the broader diplomatic discussions, including trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development, connectivity and people-to-people relations. Both countries have an extensive partnership covering cross-border electricity trade, hydropower development, road and rail connectivity, petroleum infrastructure and development assistance.

India is also expected to discuss progress on ongoing development projects and possible new assistance during the anticipated prime ministerial engagement. Projects under consideration include infrastructure initiatives, hydropower developments and cross-border connectivity links. Nepal is seeking further Indian investment in sectors such as energy and infrastructure, alongside support for reconstruction following recent floods.

The visit follows a series of diplomatic engagements between the two countries in recent months. Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal visited India in June, holding discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on development cooperation, trade, transit, energy and regional issues. The two sides have continued efforts to maintain dialogue and advance their bilateral partnership.
