India’s Ambassador to Panama, Pratibha Parkar, met Panama’s Foreign Minister, Javier Martínez-Acha, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on matters of mutual interest. The meeting highlights ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two countries and follows Panama’s foreign minister’s official visit to India earlier this year.
According to the Indian Embassy in Panama, the discussions focused on opportunities to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen cooperation across areas of shared interest. The meeting comes shortly after Parkar assumed office as India’s ambassador to Panama on September 29, following her appointment by the Ministry of External Affairs.

India and Panama have been exploring ways to expand cooperation across trade, business, maritime affairs, healthcare, agriculture, education and digital technology. During his official visit to India in July, Martínez-Acha held discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening engagement at multilateral forums.
The Panamanian foreign minister also met Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal to discuss opportunities in trade, investment, logistics, digital cooperation and business-to-business partnerships. The discussions included improving market access, creating new opportunities for bilateral trade and leveraging India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, including the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), to support collaboration in digital payments and governance.
Maritime cooperation has also emerged as an important area of engagement, with both countries identifying shipping, logistics, maritime security, skill development and digital transformation as potential pillars of a stronger partnership.
