Paparo arrived in New Delhi for a six-day official visit aimed at advancing the US-India Major Defence Partnership and strengthening military-to-military cooperation. His visit comes as India and the US continue to expand engagement on regional security and defence issues.

During his visit, Paparo is scheduled to engage with Indian officials on shared security priorities. The discussions cover areas including digital transformation, emerging technologies, regional strategic stability, defence energy resilience and the evolving technology environment. The US Embassy in India said the engagement reflects efforts to build a defence partnership capable of addressing emerging challenges.

Maritime security is a key component of the broader India-US defence relationship. The two countries have increased cooperation across the Indo-Pacific through military engagements, exercises and information-sharing mechanisms, with maritime coordination forming an important part of their efforts to support regional security and stability.

Paparo’s visit also highlights the role of the US Indo-Pacific Command in the wider security architecture of the region. The command oversees US military activities across the Indo-Pacific, including areas covering the Indian Ocean and western Pacific.

The meeting follows other recent India-US military engagements focused on the Indo-Pacific. On September 28, Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth met US Army Pacific Deputy Commanding General Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowell in New Delhi. The two sides discussed the evolving security environment and opportunities to strengthen bilateral defence engagement, including interoperability through joint training and military exercises.

The latest talks between Jaishankar and Paparo underline the continued focus on maritime security and broader strategic coordination between India and the US. Both sides are seeking to deepen cooperation across traditional defence areas as well as emerging technologies and other domains relevant to regional security.
