Air India, SkyDrive, Suzuki Explore eVTOL Medical Use

Air India, SkyDrive and Suzuki have signed an MoU to study the use of eVTOL aircraft for medical logistics in India, aiming to speed up emergency healthcare deliveries through advanced, electric air mobility solutions.

The Air India airline has taken part in the AAM industry through a MoU with Japan’s SkyDrive Inc. and Suzuki Motor Corporation, as both parties agree to examine the feasibility of using eVTOL aircraft for medical logistics in India. This partnership seeks to assess how the new generation of electric planes can help to move medical items quickly, especially in congested urban environments.

Feasibility studies will be carried out on the need for operational and regulatory frameworks that are required for the provision of safe and efficient eVTOL transportation of vital cargoes within healthcare logistics. In this regard, partners will evaluate the possibility of using electric aircraft for the transportation of medical goods like medicines, blood, vaccines, tissue samples, organs, and many other healthcare goods in an emergency situation.

Each of the partners will bring to the table their area of expertise in the project. This means that SkyDrive will be contributing the eVTOL aircraft technology expertise, Air India will be contributing its expertise on cargo transport services, airport facilities, and aviation operations, whereas Suzuki Motor Corporation will be providing its expertise about the mobility system in India. Together, all three companies are hoping to create a workable model for air mobility in India.

Commenting on the cooperation, Ramesh Mamidala, Head of Cargo at Air India, stated that India is among the fastest growing aviation markets around the globe and the advanced air mobility serves as a logical continuation for the transport network of the country. It was emphasized that the usage of eVTOL aircrafts has great potential to revolutionize the process of medical logistics due to fast transportation of lifesaving materials, which may take crucial minutes.

The partnership is another step towards the worldwide utilization of the compact eVTOL aircrafts of SkyDrive. The company is convinced that the rapid growth of the Indian cities and their growing traffic congestions will make the country an interesting market for the innovative air mobility products. The development of the electric aircrafts by SkyDrive has been going on for quite some time.

This collaboration occurs amid rising enthusiasm about eVTOLs around the world. Electric aircraft are becoming more and more attractive options for use in urban air mobility, medical transport, disaster response, and interregional connectivity, as they can land and take off vertically without the need for any runways.
